When you switch to a healthy diet, you will find a lot of ‘don’ts’ in your life.
Eating healthy foods only means that you have to restrict yourself from consuming large portions or trans-fats. You read about or hear people saying, ‘Don’t eat this’, ‘Avoid that ingredient’, and so on. At one point, it becomes hard to keep avoiding certain foods. Therefore, if you are not determined, do not suddenly switch to eating healthy foods. It is likely you will fail with your new eating habits. This may result in you holding yourself back.
If you are eating the same kind of meal every day, chances are your body is missing out on essential nutrients. A better approach to eating healthy food and sustaining this habit is not to blacklist all the bad stuff. Instead, make a list of the food or ingredients that you should add to your daily diet.
Bananas
Bananas are versatile and can easily be included in your diet in different ways. For example, they can be your on-the- go snack to keep your stomach full. You can consume bananas in the form of a smoothie or a milkshake to give your body the needed energy. As per research by dietitian Tanya Zuckerbrot, it is believed that you are at lower risk of having a stroke or high blood pressure if you consume a diet which is rich in potassium. According to, Zuckerbrot: ‘One medium banana has more than 400 mg of potassium, so it’s a great source for men, who until their mid-50s have a greater incidence of high blood pressure than women.’
Vegetables
Vegetables are fuel for the body. Not only do they contain low calories, they have essential nutrients, along with fiber. For instance, you can eat broccoli, brussels sprouts, cauliflower, kale and many more vegetables daily basis. Vegetables can help lower the risk of cancer because they stimulate enzymes which help the body protect itself from diseases.
Lean Protein
Lean protein is a great way to improve your metabolism and it also helps the body to burn more fat. Therefore, it is important to have lean protein daily. Chicken breast, turkey, selected parts of beef (such as tenderloin) are lean and contain muscle-building proteins.
Berries
Do not forget berries while you are hoarding on proteins and vegetables. They are an important part of a balanced diet and a source of antioxidants. According to Zuckerbrot: ‘Berries are always a healthy and refreshing snack, and they're an especially good choice when you’re craving something sweet. High in fiber (averaging 4-8g per serving), these fruits are naturally filling. They make a smart addition to your morning cereal, post-workout smoothie, or yogurt.’
